Petrol Shortage - what?
I was going to talk about EU drivers being unable to return to the UK because of Brexit and rule changes - all very plausible I thought!
However, something (I don’t know what!) stopped me from committing that piece to the annals of time for all to see!
This morning I was leafing through friends posts and comments and my eye was suddenly caught by a comment made by a local businesswoman - in that comment she posed the question “what changed?”
I read through the rest of her article and what she said made perfect sense, so I will paraphrase it here….
Petrol supplies are delivered to garages in special vehicles called “fuel tankers”. These vehicles are classed as “Heavy Goods Vehicles” and to be allowed to drive them a person must be in possession of an HGV 1 drivers licence together with an ADR licence (see below).
“If you are driving a vehicle carrying dangerous goods then you must, by law, hold an ADR licence which is the European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road. ... A vehicle carrying a tank container loaded with any dangerous goods. A vehicle carrying dangerous goods in bulk”.
So that said…… Petrol supplies were being delivered to garages regularly and, by definition, the drivers of the vehicles had to hold both licences. So what changed?
I suggest that there have been no significant changes (during this last week or so) from what was the norm 2 weeks earlier!
So why the sudden escalation into “shortage” …… could we be being told porkies?
Have all the HGV / ADR drivers that were happily servicing the thousands of fuel outlets in the UK suddenly fallen into an abyss or been banished from the roads?
Or (perish the thought) is this some manufactured situation created with the intention of pushing fuel prices still higher in order to force more revenue from our pockets?
Hmmmmm Something To Think About,
DAve x
