24/09/21 The Life Of A Radio Presenter (Part 4 - It All Gets Serious!)

So having completed our fact-finding mission Dave and I submitted our findings to the Council, but (to cut a long story short) the project was curtailed because Dave had accepted a promotion and that meant he had to move to another local authority.

This effectively brought an end to the plans as far as we were concerned and I returned to working with music and musicians, and dreaming of someday having a radio presence.

Eventually I moved to Devon  (where I still live) - a move that proved to be very worthwhile.

I retrained and reskilled and became qualified as a life coach but I also set up an artist management business and predominantly began working with bands.  For one particular band I put together a major 6 week tour (something that they had never done before) and took them to have 3 tracks recorded in a professional studio (owned at the time by 10cc's touring keyboard player Steve)

During this tour I became acquainted with a number of local radio presenters that resulted in becoming connected to the local "commercial" radio station (Lantern FM) that broadcast from studios in Bideford.

I also became acquainted with a company that provided specialised backdrops and lighting effects for professional entertainment.  This new association was to see my life split off into a whole new direction (but that is a whole new story).

Another door that opened brought an invitation to join the broadcast team of a radio station called Tarka Radio - I presented a show twice a week from 10 pm to midnight, plus I also stood by (a position called a Swing Jock), prepared (at a moment's notice) to take over a scheduled show on a temporary basis (illness, no shows etc)

I stayed with Tarka for two years and because of the "late night" nature of my show  I wasn’t involved in playlisting - meaning that unlike the other daytime and evening presenters I was able to play whatever music I wanted (naturally within certain criteria).

When I left Tarka I used that knowledge I had gained to create my own radio service based around my life and interests. The first of my radio stations and all the others since are purely Internet-based.

This first station was called Cauldron Radio and it broadcast content that was wholly based in Paganism.

At that time (because of the nature of the music) there was very little, if any, that required PRS to be paid and if I found the piece did require PRS I just didn’t play it, it was as simple as that!

Making that decision set the scene and format for all the subsequent radio channels I created.

None of them play copyright/mainstream music and all of the music that is played has been gifted to me by the artist

And format for all the subsequent radio channels I created. None of them play copyright/mainstream music and all of the music that is played has been gifted to me by the artist

I eventually changed the name of Cauldron Radio to Cauldron FM and set all the subsequent stations / channels up as podcasts only and broadcasting non-copyright music only!

But more of that next time…!

12/09/21 The Wise Bird….

Hi and welcome to today’s blog page. We are back home after a couple of nights in the caravan.  It has been a lovely weekend but sadly 2 nights are not really long enough.   ©️2021 wytchwynd photography Yesterday after a slow start in the morning we had to do battle with a problematic water system before heading off to Exeter for the afternoon.  That proved to be a tad expensive as I happened to say that I liked a wicker-style patio set that was on Special Offer in The Range.  Oh boy!   Guess who left the shop £140 poorer? On the plus side we had a lovely meal at Toby Carvery, Rydon Lane, Exeter (not a sponsored mention - but always happy to discuss) that was, as always, great value for money in an establishment that is clean, friendly and welcoming. After the meal we took a steady drive back to the caravan. This morning was a little fraught because I was feeling a wee bit tetchy over this on-going water issue but hopefully I will get something resolved this wee...
