16/09/21 The Life Of A Radio Presenter (Part 2 - Let the Rocking Begin!)

Hi and welcome to the second part of this insight into my life as a radio presenter.

Runcorn Town Hall (unknown photographer)

When we left the story at the end of Part 1 we had reached the point where I had been approached by Dave Wycherly (Halton Borough Council's Arts Development Officer) with a view to me joining his team based at Runcorn Town Hall (pictured above).  Although this was a voluntary post it brought the strength of the team to the grand total of 2!

Between us we were charged with the development of, and the raising awareness of, The Arts in the Borough of Halton.  This was by no means an easy task but it was one that we felt we could bring to justice!

One of the first things that was accomplished was the addition of a live music tent at the up and coming Spike Island Festival.  This event was actually sited on Spike Island which was very close to a major chemical plant.  The event included all of the usual fair type attractions plus a superb ski-jumping display, sponsored by Citroen .

Although my involvement at first event was purely peripheral I was soon far more involved with the whole project of the Spike Island Festival (as immortalised by the band "The Stone Roses" legendary appearance in 1990.

However (so as not to get ahead of ourselves) the next step was a series of meetings (you could call them strategy meetings but I call them brainstorming sessions)

One of the ideas that surfaced was that of a musicians cooperative, where all members involved supported one another in the development of the music /Performance skills/musicianship et cetera.

In addition Dave and I went on a fact-finding mission to St Helens on Merseyside.  We went to a venue that was called “The Citadel” that had been converted into a performance venue from a former salvation army meeting place.

That venue “ROCKED” as did the all-girl band who were on stage and we came away “buzzing” with excitement.

To that end Dave had been able to persuade the council to permit the change of use of an old abandoned church in Widnes and let us convert it into a performance venue.

Several weeks of hard work followed and eventually the doors opened and from that start the "church" was pretty soon rocking every week.

In Part 3 I am going to outline how the next phase of the journey unfolded into a bit of a "wow - has that really just happened?" moment

to be continued......

Thanks for being here and taking the time to read this post!

Please check back again regularly because I cannot specifically say when the next update(s) will be posted.

So until then have a great day, be safe, be careful and above all, remember

Don’t predict the future - CREATE IT!

Good Morning and Merrie Meet Welcome to today's blog! "Flat Calm - next stop America"  It is a beautiful, blue sky day and as you can see in the photo the sea is a wonderful Flat Calm. It is at times like this when living in North Devon has significant plus points that come into play. The crowds have diminished, the roads are much quieter and safer and we are able to enjoy the late Summer Sunshine in comfort. This weekend is #3 with friends and the caravans, it is also "hopefully" the last one we will spend with a leaking shower unit. If I am lucky, I might get some time to write a few forward posts for the blogs, get some lyrics on paper for the latest album I want to record PLUS get some more photographs up on the Moor. BUT THEN AGAIN -  I may do none of those things and just CHILL! We will have to see. Anyway - whatever you choose to do with your weekend make it a great one and enjoy oooOOOooo Thanks for being there and thank you for reading this post! Please

18/11/22 Anger - Something To Be Aware Of!

Anger -  something  to be aware of! Anger is an emotion characterized by antagonism toward someone or something you feel has deliberately done you wrong. Anger can be a good thing. It can give you a way to express negative feelings, for example, or motivate you to find solutions to problems. But excessive anger can cause problems! Anger is a natural reaction that we experience if we feel threatened or frustrated. It is the first emotion that we experience and the last one we learn to manage effectively. Human infants begin to really display anger as early as 4 months old, and then as we get older we spend the rest of our lives denying it or suppressing it as a troublesome emotion. There are believed to be 2 main types of anger:- Destructive anger and Healing anger Destructive anger is expressed in an unhealthy way and causes harm. For example, a person may act out aggressively towards others. The anger might also be turned inward, resulting in deliberate self-

Friday Update 21/10/22

"I am a person who thinks,              not a number!" Merry Greetings from here in Ilfracombe Have you ever wondered how many people refer to you as what's her (or his) name.  They really don't know who you are and I often ask myself why this should be? I have a theory about this - maybe when they were told your name (either by yourself or someone else) they were not really concentrating on the job in hand or is something else at play?  It is a known fact that things you learnt only recently are actually the hardest to remember, because they have not embedded themselves in your mind. Also a lot of the time this happens because you were paying close enough attention to the information you were given.  It could be that you were desperately trying to prevent your wine from spilling out of your glass and onto the floor. Alternatively you may have been thinking about the shopping you need to buy instead of remembering where you put your car. It is a
