09/09/21 "Getting Back To Normal"

Hi and welcome to today's blog post called "Getting Back To Normal"

After the midsummer madness that takes over North Devon dies down, life returns to its' calmer, relaxed, chilled out state of being.  The beaches become much less populated, the litter mountains disappear, the roads return to being roads instead of pedestrian walkways interspersed with the inconvenient things called cars....... and generally life becomes much better!

Now please don't get me wrong because I really do appreciate the fact that visitors bring a lot of revenue into the North Devon cash registers - holiday camps, shops, bars, transportation etc.  And this year, more than ever, their return has brought that much welcomed revenue in spades!

But that said, there is always a flip side.......

.... this year it has been more noticeable than ever (because of the restrictions placed on travel to foreign parts) - that these increased visitor numbers bring with them increased congestion, litter etc.

These increases often present real dangers to both road users and pedestrians  because there is a greater tendency towards walking in the road and stepping off pavements without looking.

In the area where I live there have been a number "near misses" (too many to count) and all too often when such events happen, the walkers shout abuse after the driver of the "offending vehicle", who was, in fact, simply doing what they are entitled to, on a road that is effectively provided for his (or her) use!

Footpaths and pavements are provided for people who are walking!

So please if you are reading this in Cheshire, Lancashire, Shropshire, Yorkshire, that London or any other shire, town or village that is not by the sea -  remember when you visit anywhere, that the same rules of the road that exist in your home location apply in the place(s) you are visiting!

RANT OVER!

Thank you for taking the time to read this post and hopefully you will take on board the comments.  Your visits and your custom are really appreciated and we look forward to welcoming you back again on your next visit!

If you have plans to visit somewhere on holiday please remember that you are staying temporarily in an area where people live all the time, and please spare those full-time residents a thought as you go about the business of enjoying yourself.

Thank you very much for taking the time to read this piece.

Have a great day, be safe, be careful and remember

Don't predict the future - CREATE IT!

Good Morning and Merrie Meet Welcome to today's blog! "Flat Calm - next stop America"  It is a beautiful, blue sky day and as you can see in the photo the sea is a wonderful Flat Calm. It is at times like this when living in North Devon has significant plus points that come into play. The crowds have diminished, the roads are much quieter and safer and we are able to enjoy the late Summer Sunshine in comfort. This weekend is #3 with friends and the caravans, it is also "hopefully" the last one we will spend with a leaking shower unit. If I am lucky, I might get some time to write a few forward posts for the blogs, get some lyrics on paper for the latest album I want to record PLUS get some more photographs up on the Moor. BUT THEN AGAIN -  I may do none of those things and just CHILL! We will have to see. Anyway - whatever you choose to do with your weekend make it a great one and enjoy oooOOOooo Thanks for being there and thank you for reading this post! Please...

Hi and welcome to my Personal Blog. Let us begin with an apology for the missing couple of day's posts, but these days were taken up with hospital visits and also our Wedding Anniversary (Sept.28th) 47 years ago I married Alison, the love of my life!   We were married by Rev'd John Flory in the Parish Church of St.Chad, Patchway, Bristol and then we had the reception at Stanshawes Court Hotel, Yate, Bristol. It was a brilliant day celebrating with family and good friends and then it was followed by a Honeymoon in Paignton. Life then rambled on quite happily although there were a few ups and downs, there were  some fantastic moments plus a few horrendous ones, some comedy and some tragedy.  We have been blessed with 2 brilliant daughters who make us so proud and a little boy who didn't actually make a successful transition from womb to world but he is still and always will be our son. Eventually after navigating the twists and turns of life's journey we ended up livin...

18/11/22 Anger - Something To Be Aware Of!

Anger -  something  to be aware of! Anger is an emotion characterized by antagonism toward someone or something you feel has deliberately done you wrong. Anger can be a good thing. It can give you a way to express negative feelings, for example, or motivate you to find solutions to problems. But excessive anger can cause problems! Anger is a natural reaction that we experience if we feel threatened or frustrated. It is the first emotion that we experience and the last one we learn to manage effectively. Human infants begin to really display anger as early as 4 months old, and then as we get older we spend the rest of our lives denying it or suppressing it as a troublesome emotion. There are believed to be 2 main types of anger:- Destructive anger and Healing anger Destructive anger is expressed in an unhealthy way and causes harm. For example, a person may act out aggressively towards ot...
